The Kitronik Deluxe Bicycle Tail Light Learning Kit is an easy to build kit that is a great solution for learning about the very popular 555 timer IC. The kit uses four super bright LEDs with two operating modes: continuous and flashing.
A key design goal of the kit was to comply with British standards. Both the flash frequency and brightness meet the British Vehicle Road Lighting Standard (2005), making it ideal for use as a bicycle tail light.
Testing was performed using three AAA batteries continuously. Even after 80 hours of continuous use, the LEDs still maintained maximum brightness. After 107 hours, the light was still on, but the brightness had dropped below a usable level.
